Lesson Ideas:

1) Cheerfulness Makes the Difference

Tell the class you are going to say a few lines to start off. Ask them to listen to your tone of voice and body language. Let them express if what you say makes them excited, or is it so bad that they don’t believe your words.

Sample: (in a sleepy ho-hum tone of voice)

Welcome class I’m so glad to be here. *take a deep breath. There is nothing I’d rather be doing? *roll your eyes. What I am going to teach is so important you will remember for the rest of your life. I can hardly hold in the… the.. *hold your chin or yawn, excitement. Ya that’s it. Excitement!

How does the way you speak make them feel about what you are saying?

(Speak the same words again, but this time with enthusiasm and excitement)

Now… How does the way you speak make them feel about what you are saying now?

The words are the same, so why is it different?

[Scripture] Read 2 Corinthians 9:7

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Being cheerful makes all the difference on delivery. If your class is younger, you can play this 2 minute song called, “Show Me Your Smile” by Joe Wise.

2) Heavenly Father Always Answers Prayers

This weeks lesson has a very good story by Julie Cornelius-Huang in the Friend magazine. I made a download for it to be easier to print and read. A few scriptures included.

3) Making it Our Own Choice Helps Us Be Cheerful About Giving

Having freedom in our choices helps us to be cheerful. How many of you like to be told what to do? This activity gives some ideas to the kids to help them choose what service they give to help them give cheerfully.

How many of you have given a coupon book to someone as a gift? This is like that, except in reverse. Have each child fill out the segments of the download below, and then staple them.

Print out a sheet for each child. I filled in the areas as an example. The activity will help us serve each other willingly.

Supplemental Scriptures:

2 Corinthians 9:7

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

Ether 12:27

And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
